NFL Research spotlights the best nuggets from each slate of games. Here are the most eye-popping statistical accomplishments from Week 4 of the 2025 NFL season.
1) Rams' Nacua on historic pace for receiving record
Puka Nacua entered Week 4 as the NFL's leading receiver and piled on another 170 receiving yards against the Colts on Sunday for good measure. What's more impressive than his NFL-best 503 yards this season are his 42 receptions -- which tied his old teammate Cooper Kupp (2022) and Michael Thomas (2018) for the most receptions in the first four games of the season in NFL history.
Nacua's big game was the sixth of his career in which he had at least 150 receiving yards (including playoffs). The only players with more such games through three seasons: Randy Moss (seven) and Justin Jefferson (eight).
His quarterback, Matthew Stafford, who threw for a season-high 375 yards, made history on a connection with a different receiver. With 1:33 left in regulation, tied 20-20, Stafford found Tutu Atwell for an 88-yard touchdown -- setting a Super Bowl era-record for the longest game-winning touchdown from scrimmage with less than two minutes remaining in regulation.
2) Mahomes becomes youngest QB to throw for 250 careers TDs
Two multi-time NFL MVP quarterbacks enter, one leaves at 1-3. Those were the stakes for Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes on Sunday. While Jackson unfortunately left the game early with hamstring injury, Mahomes made history in the Chiefs' win over Baltimore.
Mahomes, who finished with 270 passing yards and four touchdowns, threw his 249th and 250th (and 251st and 252nd) career touchdowns, becoming the youngest player in NFL history to reach the 250-touchdown mark at just 30 years old (Mahomes' birthday was on September 17). He broke Dan Marino's record, who threw his 250th touchdown at 30 years and one-and-a-half months of age. It also took Mahomes the fewest games played to reach that mark (116 games; previous record was 121 games by Aaron Rodgers).
In his career, Mahomes has thrown at least four touchdowns in a game 18 times, which broke a tie for the most such games in a player's first 10 career seasons. Two caveats for that: 1) Mahomes is four games into his ninth NFL season; and 2) he played just one game his rookie year.
3) Giants rookie QB Dart takes down undefeated Chargers
How about this for your first career NFL start? Facing a team that's coming into the matchup undefeated and features a much-lauded defense that ranked No. 1 in points allowed last year, as well as a superstar quarterback who's squarely in the early MVP mix in Justin Herbert.
Apparently, Jaxson Dart was up to the task. The 25th overall pick in this year's draft became the first rookie quarterback to defeat a team 3-0 or better in his first career start since Phil Simms in 1979 against the 5-0 Buccaneers.
Dart's debut started off auspiciously, leading New York on an 89-yard touchdown drive on the first possession of the game. Dart became the first quarterback since Patrick Mahomes to lead his team on a touchdown drive of at least 80 yards on the first possession of his first career start.
Overall, Dart finished with 111 passing yards, a touchdown throw to Theo Johnson, and 54 yards and a score on the ground. He is the first quarterback with a passing touchdown, rushing touchdown and 50-plus rushing yards in career start No. 1 since Tim Tebow in 2010.
4) Jeanty has breakout game with three-TD performance vs. Bears
Ashton Jeanty had struggled through his first three games in the NFL, as the Raiders rookie RB had managed just 144 rushing yards on 47 carries (3.1 average) entering Week 4.
On Sunday, Jeanty piled up 138 rushing yards and 155 scrimmage yards for three touchdowns against the Bears. According to Next Gen Stats, Jeanty had 140 rushing yards coming after contact.
What was different about Week 4? Did he change his stance? Did the Raiders' offensive line have its best game of the young season? Was it because the rookie back faced the Bears' defense?
Whatever the case may be, Jeanty had a historic output, scoring three touchdowns (one rushing score, two receiving touchdowns). The first-round pick out of Boise State joined Bo Jackson (1987) and Marcus Allen (1982) as the only Raiders rookies since the 1970 merger to score a rushing touchdown and receiving touchdown in the same game.
Jeanty (21 years and 300 days) also became the youngest player with three touchdowns in a game since Saquon Barkley in 2018.
