Bills QB Josh Allen, Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy highlight Players of the Week

Who were the NFL's top stars in Week 1? Each Wednesday, the league unveils its weekly honor roll. See who the Players of the Week are below.

AFC Offensive Player of the Week

Josh Allen
Buffalo Bills · QB

Down 15 points with less than 12 minutes to play against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night, Allen rallied his Bills for an improbable 41-40 victory to kick off the season. Allen quarterbacked the Bills to three straight scoring drives to garner the win, first hitting receiver Keon Coleman for a 10-yard touchdown off a tipped pass, then rushing it up the middle for a 1-yard score and finally finding Coleman again for a 25-yard gain to set up kicker Matt Prater's 32-yard game-winning field goal. When the instant classic had ended, Allen had completed 33 of 46 passes for 394 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and a 112.0 pass rating to go with 30 yards on the ground and another two scores.

NFC Offensive Player of the Week

J.J. McCarthy
Minnesota Vikings · QB

One game into his NFL career and McCarthy is already an award winner. With the Vikings trailing by 11 points in the fourth quarter, McCarthy led his squad on three successive touchdown drives en route to a 27-24 win. McCarthy, making his NFL debut after missing all of his rookie campaign with a knee injury, threw his first two career touchdowns and rushed for his first score in the fourth quarter to lead the rally. His final -- and first -- stat line read: 13 of 20 for 143 yards and two touchdowns; two carries for 25 yards and a TD.

AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Foye Oluokun
Jacksonville Jaguars · LB

The Jaguars held the Carolina Panthers to 255 yards and forced three turnovers during a 26-10 win on Sunday. Oluokun was at the forefront of the defensive masterpiece. The linebacker had a team-high 10 tackles, recorded an interception, forced a fumble and had a pass breakup. It was a sterling season opener.

NFC Defensive Player of the Week

Nate Landman
Los Angeles Rams · LB

Landman was all over the field on Sunday, as evidenced by his 10 tackles, but it was one play in particular that garnered him accolades and lifted the Rams to a 14-9 win over the Houston Texans. With Houston driving into L.A. territory and less than two minutes to play, Landman forced a fumble that was recovered by teammate Braden Fiske and sealed a 1-0 start for the Rams.

AFC Special Teams Player of the Week

Chris Boswell
Pittsburgh Steelers · K

Boswell came up big and clutch all in one mighty swing of his leg. The veteran kicker lifted the Steelers to a 34-32 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday when he converted a 60-yard field goal with just 1:03 left on the clock. It capped a stellar day for Boswell, who converted two field goals in as many attempts and all four of his point-after touchdown attempts.

NFC Special Teams Player of the Week

Kameron Johnson
Tampa Bay Buccaneers · WR

Johnson had just one touch in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 23-20 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, but it was a mighty pivotal one. Fielding an Atlanta punt at the Bucs' 14-yard line, Johnson turned in a scintillating 54-yard return to the Falcons' 32. The punt return set up Baker Mayfield's go-ahead 9-yard touchdown pass to Bucky Irving and a 17-10 lead.
