Shedeur Sanders on Browns QB competition: 'Inside the room, we know we're one'

The Cleveland Browns' crowded quarterback room could make for some awkward moments, but that's not been the case, according to rookie Shedeur Sanders.

In an interview with FanDuel TV's Up & Adams, Sanders said the vibe in the QB room is positive.

"Everybody's cool," Sanders told host Kay Adams over the weekend during the NFLPA Rookie Premiere. "Outside the room, people try to pit us against each other, but inside the room, we know we're one."

Following news of Deshaun Watson's latest Achilles' injury, which is expected to knock him out for the season, the Browns traded for Kenny Pickett and signed Joe Flacco in free agency. Then Cleveland made the rare move of drafting two mid-round rookie quarterbacks, taking Dillon Gabriel in the third round and Sanders in the fifth round.

The four healthy quarterbacks will jostle for roster positions. Given the two draft picks, it's likely that whichever veteran -- Flacco or Pickett -- doesn't win the starting gig could be released or traded. It's about as interesting a concoction as you can find, with no clear-cut answer as to how things will play.

Pickett is expected to enter offseason workouts at the front of the line, but the 40-year-old Flacco brings experience in Kevin Stefanski's system.

Sanders noted that the mixture of different ages and styles works in the diverse QB room.

"We're all different characters. It's funny going there and seeing Joe every day. It's fun to see him because I'm like, 'Wow, I'm really with Joe Flacco right now, we're on the same team,'" Sanders said. "Then, of course, with Kenny, the experience he has being in the league for these years is cool just to see the process of it. And Deshaun, of course, he's active in there, he's in all the meetings, so it's cool talking to him."

With OTAs set to ramp up next week, the jockeying for jobs in Cleveland will begin in earnest.
