It's been a whirlwind couple of months for one of the biggest power couples in sports.
Snowboarder Chloe Kim, who fell just short of a three-peat in the Olympics women's halfpipe, took home the silver medal on Thursday with boyfriend Myles Garrett in attendance at the 2026 Winter Games.
"I mean it's so fun," Kim said Friday on The Today Show of having the Browns pass rusher there. "He's truly my best friend. He's such an amazing addition to my support system. It's very special, cause I feel like he gets it, he gets what it's like to be in this position, he gets what it's like to be an athlete. He understands the pressure and all of that. So, he's been an amazing person, and, yeah, he's my rock, my best friend, I'm excited."
Garrett certainly understands the pressure of competing from the mountaintop of his sport.
A five-time All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowler, he was recently named the unanimous NFL Defensive Player of the Year after breaking the single-season sack record. He's also experienced his share of defeat, having been wasted on multiple wayward Browns teams, with only two playoff trips during his eight-year NFL tenure.
Such perspective as part of Kim's support system was surely appreciated as she sought to continue her dominance over the event after winning Olympic gold in 2022 and 2018.
Kim, one of the titans of her sport, competed in the '26 Games despite suffering a torn labrum in her shoulder during a training run just over a month before. She finished in first during Wednesday's qualification round with a score of 90.25. However, with snow pouring down on the halfpipe Thursday evening, Kim fell short of the podium's top spot.
She scored an 88 on her best of three runs and was bested by South Korea's Gaon Choi, who received a 90.25 for her final run.
It was a disappointing result, to be sure, but nonetheless an incredible accomplishment and rather remarkable considering Kim's injury and the rust she had to shake off after hardly competing over the past year.
As for much smaller-stakes competitions within her own relationship, Kim also dished on her dynamic with Garrett.
"In our relationship, I think he's more of like a silent competitor, he's really competitive, but he won't say it out loud," Kim said. "I'm like, 'I will beat you in this game right here, right now.' We played backgammon before the final and he got me there, but we need a rematch."
In Garrett and Kim's immediate future appears to be a backgammon rematch.
Beyond that, Garrett will begin the process of gearing up for another NFL season under new Browns head coach Todd Monken and Kim, still just 25, will have many competitions to come and a 2030 Winter Olympics to aim for should she so choose.
