The Super Bowl LIX champion Philadelphia Eagles are set to kick off the 2025 season at Lincoln Financial Field. In breaking down the potential opponents, we selected the Detroit Lions as the best option to open the season against Philly.
Lions star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown agrees.
In the latest episode of the St. Brown Podcast, the wideout said the Lions would be the best option of the bunch.
"Eagles have the home opener next year because they won the Super Bowl," St. Brown said. "Can I read you the list of teams that could potentially be in that first game? Commanders, Cowboys, Giants, Bears, Lions, Raiders, Rams, Broncos. Out of all those teams, if you're the NFL, who are you putting in there?"
All three St. Brown brothers agreed the Lions were the best matchup for Philly to open the season -- with one hedge for Washington.
"That's what I'm saying. So we might be playing Week 1 at Lincoln Financial Field," Amon-Ra St. Brown said. "You would see with our healthy defense, how that s--- operates."
St. Brown then recounted the litany of defensive injuries, which included star defensive linemen Aidan Hutchinson and Alim McNeill.
"We had hella injuries, not an excuse, I'm just saying," he said.
The Lions losing in the Divisional Round to Washington deprived viewers of a Detroit-Philly No. 1 versus No. 2 showdown in the 2024 NFC postseason. The NFL could put them on display to open the 2025 season.
If it is Week 1, the bout could shape how the NFC unfolds next season. Or the league could save the heavyweight showdown for later in the campaign as the two clubs tussle for seeding.
