Assault charges against Detroit Lions' Amari Spievey dismissed

Criminal charges against Detroit Lions safety Amari Spievey were dismissed by a Connecticut judge on Wednesday, after Spievey completed a family violence education program.

Spievey had been charged with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct and risk of injury to a child following an arrest March 26. He was allegedly engaged in a child support dispute with his girlfriend, Lisa Marie Santos, when the argument became physical.

The Detroit Free Press reports Spievey was present at a hearing Wednesday when charges were dismissed in Middlesex County Superior Court in Middletown, Conn.

"He and his girlfriend are back together again and everything's resolved," said Spievey's attorney, Michael Dowley. "Everything's completed and everything's fine. He's really looking forward to the season with Lions."
