Philadelphia did nothing in the 2025 NFL Draft to potentially replace Dallas Goedert, nor did general manager Howie Roseman give a firm answer regarding the tight end's future following the event.
Roseman, who said ahead of the draft that the Eagles would not be affected by uncertainty surrounding Goedert -- currently in the last year of his contract -- forwent selecting a tight end with any of the team's 10 picks.
"Dallas is part of the team as we speak," Roseman said when asked if the TE-free draft class changes anything, per team transcript. "Obviously, as we go forward, we're going to continue to address things on this team and right now nothing further."
Goedert's future has been called into question due to his $11.7 million cap hit in 2025, coupled with zero guaranteed money remaining on his contract. Now 30 years old, Goedert has played a full slate of games only once in his seven-year career -- and that was as a rookie. He managed a career-low 10 regular-season appearances last season due to injury, which led to a career-low two touchdown catches. Goedert's 496 receiving yards and 42 catches also both marked lows outside of his inaugural campaign in Philly.
Roseman's non-answer on Goedert's future likely speaks volumes to some. There's still plenty of offseason left to figure out if it's simply the GM keeping things in house or a sign of a split to come. Roseman did sing Goedert's praises when asked whether or not he could see a path where the TE comes back to the Eagles.
"Dallas is a heck of a player -- a heck of a player, a heck of a person," Roseman said. "Certainly don't want to do anything publicly where we're discussing anyone's business, but I have so much respect for him. Been to two Super Bowls together and obviously would love him on this team. You always love having Dallas on this team, but we're not there right now on any of that. But, love Dallas Goedert."
Instead of tight end, the Eagles spent their offensive draft picks on backup quarterback Kyle McCord and three offensive linemen to continue making the lives of Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley easier.
They did, however, add to the position in free agency, signing Harrison Bryant and Kylen Granson.
Grant Calcaterra is also returning. The fourth-year tight end filled in capably during Goedert's 2024 absence with 24 catches for 298 yards and a score.
Without a big splash at the position during the draft, it remains to be seen if Philadelphia at least finishes out Goedert's contract so he can continue to lead the group as he has for many years.
NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reported on March 31 that although his contract made for a difficult financial decision, the Eagles weren't actively looking to dump Goedert. They were open to listen to trade offers, although clearly none came to fruition during the draft, and this weekend provided no big-name prospect that might perhaps make the Super Bowl-winning veteran more dispensable.
On Saturday as Roseman spoke, and as this is written, Goedert remains an Eagle.
