Jaguars swap receivers by signing West, waiving Newsome

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jaguars signed wide receiver Chastin West off the Green Bay Packers' practice squad Tuesday and waived rookie wideout Jamar Newsome.

West joined the Packers as an undrafted rookie in 2010 and spent the entire season on their practice squad. He led Green Bay in the 2011 preseason with eight receptions for 153 yards. He was waived in final cuts and later was signed to the practice squad.

West might play Sunday at Carolina. Receivers Jason Hill (hip) and Kassim Osgood (hamstring) are recovering from injuries, and it's unclear if they will be ready.

Newsome made Jacksonville's opening-day roster as an undrafted rookie and was active for last Sunday's game against the New York Jets. He didn't have a catch.
