The Steelers' start: Pittsburgh was penalized four times in its first three offensive possessions last week against the Bills, preventing the offense from getting into a rhythm. On defense, they let the Bills march downfield easily for two scores. The Steelers need a strong start to avoid playing from behind against one of the league's better defenses.
The Steelers' special teams: Kicker Jeff Reed missed a 42-yard field goal attempt vs. the Bills, and the Steelers gave up a 95-yard kickoff return for a TD. But 14-year veteran punter Mitch Berger (added after Daniel Sepulveda tore his ACL) made a nice debut, landing three of his four punts inside the 20. Look for WR Santonio Holmes to take part on the special teams unit, as coach Mike Tomlin indicated that he might return a few punts.
Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson: Jackson sprained his knee last week against the Ravens, but coach Brad Childress said on Monday that Jackson will play against the Steelers. Backup Gus Frerotte, 37, is 8-of-16 for 129 yards and one TD in the preseason.
The Vikings' defensive line: Backup DT Kenderick Allen and DE Jayme Mitchell are both out for the season with injuries, and the D-line has also been without ends Kenechi Udeze and Brian Robison. Rookies Letroy Guion and Leger Douzable could make a name for themselves backing up starting tackles Pat Williams and Kevin Williams.
