Detroit Lions running back Kevin Smith was carted off the sidelines after a non-contact injury to his lower leg during the second quarter of Thursday's 27-15 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
The FOX postgame broadcast reported that a Lions trainer said Smith sustained a high ankle sprain.
Smith gave the ball to Nate Burleson on a wide receiver reverse and hobbled to the sidelines afterward. Maurice Morris replaced him at running back. Smith returned to the sidelines but was officially ruled out during the third quarter.
"We'll have to evaluate and do tests but in my mind, I'll be fine," Smith told NFL Network's Albert Breer after the game. "We have 10 days of rest, just have to get on the treatment and see what happens."
The Detroit News reported the Lions were down to just two healthy cornerbacks after safety Louis Delmas and cornerbacks Chris Houston and Brandon McDonald suffered knee injuries and did not return to the game.Â
Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk suffered a left calf injury, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, and did not return. Robert Francois replaced Hawk and intercepted Matt Stafford to set up the Packers' third touchdown of the game -- a 65-yard strike from Aaron Rodgers to James Jones.
Packers linebacker Desmond Bishop suffered a calf injury and did not return. Bishop stood on the sidelines on crutches and with his right calf wrapped.
