Ryan Cook traded to Dallas Cowboys from Miami Dolphins

The Dallas Cowboys acquired versatile offensive lineman Ryan Cook from the Miami Dolphins on Thursday, according to a source with knowledge of the deal.

The Cowboys confirmed the move on their official website Friday, saying they sent a seventh-round draft pick to the Dolphins.

The Cowboys got an up-close look at Cook on Wednesday night, when they played the Dolphins in their preseason finale. Cook started for Miami, along with the rest of the reserve offensive line.

The Cowboys have struggled with depth on their interior offensive line all preseason, and the unit has been leaky since the beginning of training camp. Dallas signed free agents Nate Livings and Mackenzy Bernadeau during the offseason to solidify the inside of its offensive line, but both players have battled injuries in the preseason. Center Phil Costa also has been limited with a back injury.

Cook, a 2006 second-round draft pick by the Minnesota Vikings, is 6-foot-6 and 325 pounds. He played for the Vikings from 2006 to 2010 before landing with the Dolphins last season.

Cook has started 40 games in his NFL career, playing center, guard and tackle. He appeared in seven games with no starts last season.
