Titans sign veteran center Fernando Velasco

The Titans are bringing Fernando Velasco back to Tennessee.

The team on Tuesday signed the veteran center after placing cornerback Brandon Harris on injured reserve.

Velasco appeared in 49 games for the Titans between 2009 and 2012 before playing for the Steelers and Panthers. He pads a position where Brian Schwenke finished last season as the 32nd-ranked center in the NFL, per Pro Football Focus. The Titans also have Gabe Ikard and sixth-round rookie Andy Gallik at the position. Velasco adds needed depth with Ikard coming off an ACL injury.

Whether it's Schwenke or someone else under center, it's important for the Titans to find consistency at the position with rookie Marcus Mariota expected to start right out of the gate.
