Current, former NFL players took to seas for third edition of 'The Catch' fishing competition

A number of NFL players took to the seas this weekend for the third edition of the Sports Fishing Championship's "The Catch" competition.

This year, the SFC invited more than 17 past and present NFL athletes, who were then split up between 14 angling clubs to take part in the offshore fishing pro-am. Taking place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the competition was hosted by New York Giants quarterback Jameis Winston and pit competing teams against each other on Saturday using a points-based system.

After all reels were cast, fish caught and scores tabulated, bragging rights belonged to a former player -- tight end Kyle Rudolph, who, alongside West Florida Black Flags AC, earned 350 points.

South Florida Sails AC, which welcomed Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman Leonard Williams and retired TE Vernon Davis aboard, tied for second place with 300 points.

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and Arizona Cardinals cornerback Starling Thomas V also totaled 300 points in collaboration with Third Coast Renegades AC to share that placement.

Las Vegas Raiders running back Raheem Mostert, last year's winner with Alvin Kamara, joined East Coast Remix AC and fished his way to fourth (275 points). Kamara returned, as well, placing two spots behind his fellow 2024 champ as part of Louisiana Canyons AC.

Gulf Coast Cowboys AC and Cincinnati Bengals pass rusher Trey Hendrickson rounded out the top five with 225 points, the final group to eclipse 200.

Williams and Davis' team notably caught the largest tuna of the day at 23.16 pounds, followed by Ravens WR Zay Flowers and New England Lights Out AC's 20.28-pounder. Mostert, though off the podium this time around, can still hang his hat on Remix reeling in the largest mahi mahi (5.82 pounds).

Other participants included: brothers James Cook and Dalvin Cook, Buffalo Bills guard O'Cyrus Torrence, Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman, New York Jets defensive tackle Quincy Williams, Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and retirees Domenik Hixon and Ed McCaffrey.
