Four days ahead of the San Francisco 49ers' season opener, cause for concern has landed on the injury report.
Niners running back Christian McCaffrey was listed as limited with a calf injury on Thursday's team practice report. McCaffrey had no injury designation in Wednesday's practice report.
The 49ers open their season Sunday against the host Seattle Seahawks.
McCaffrey is coming off a 2024 season in which he missed 13 games due to a calf injury/pedal Achilles sprain to begin the year and a PCL sprain to end it.
This offseason, there's been nothing but healthy reports regarding CMC's comeback until Thursday. Thursday is also the day McCaffrey usually speaks with the media, but he did not have availability this time around.
A member of the Carolina Panthers from 2017 through the midway point of the 2022 season, McCaffrey played just 10 total games from 2020-2021 due to various injuries. After joining the 49ers via trade in 2022, CMC was in prime form, winning a rushing crown in 2023. Then his first significant injuries as a 49er hit ahead of last season.
Now, there's reason for more unease. Just how concerning his calf injury is will come to fruition in the remaining days ahead of the season opener.
